Now I can't say for sure if the freeze crashing is completely gone, having only tested these changes on one level, but I'm starting a new play through from scratch to verify that before beginning a Nightmare run. It's final battle area just before the final boss fight is always the most crash prone for me. Once you are there right click on both Doom.exe (DOOM圆4vk and DOOM圆4) and go to properties click on the compatibility tab and make it compatibility mode Windows 8 and check Run as Administrator on both the normal and vulkan Doom exe files. This issue can be resolved by adding the commandline -NoLauncher -NoStartupMovies under the properties and launch options for Doom. I should mention as well that I also updated my GPU driver to 16.11.3 from 16.10.3. I deleted those commands, fired up the game, and immediately the game seemed to run smoother.

Last night though I discovered I'd left two commands in the cfg file for mouse smoothing and framerate cap. I turned steam to offline mode, run doom offline and it skipped that loading screens with stuff from internet and after playing game no crashes/hangs with. It's particularly hard to take when your playing on what is the closest equivalent of New Game +, using Mission Select, because it does not save progress.Īnyways, after having read Bethesda's guide on crash prevention some time ago, I thought I'd removed all the launch options, which is one of their recommendations. So naturally I was upset when it would randomly freeze crash every now and then.
